H. Ann Ackroyd was born and raised in southern Africa before moving to Europe as a teenager. She has travelled in Britain, South America and the United States. She trained and worked as a translator. She speaks English, German, Portuguese and Spanish. She and her husband lived a number of years in Brazil before finally settling in Canada Saint John, New Brunswick.
